Add some Winterberry Holly. The sight of this beautiful plant will give your garden a bit of holiday cheer. It’s a deciduous plant that requires very little maintenance and grows heartily in our region. It requires a little more watering than other plants as it is native to swampy areas, but it can grow within normal garden conditions.
Another great option is Amethyst Mist. This plant features silver and burgundy leaves that shimmer and shine regardless of the temperature outside. You can plant it straight in the ground or within a flower pot, and it will grow just fine.
You’ll want to take extra care with this plant as mildew and leaf spots are common. These will not harm the plant if you take care of any mildew or dying leaves if either arises. This plant does like to spread, so if you don’t want it to do that, you’ll need to remove any seedlings as the plant does grow quickly.
Finally, consider Arctic Fire Dwarf Red-twig Dogwood. This feisty plant is always the life of the landscaping party, and it’s so low-maintenance that you will hardly ever have to do anything to keep it happy.
Simply trim it, keep it watered, and make sure the soil is drained properly, and it will grow and grow for years to come. As it grows, it will provide a beautiful tinge of red to your landscape year-round.
