John McLenon, Landscape Designer/Sales Staff/Account Manager
What trends are you seeing in the design industry?
Trends I have recently run into have been landscape modern homes or providing a modern landscape. I don’t really like them because they are colorless and boring in my opinion. I am trying to find a nice balance of color and sleek clean lines of a modern design.
What does Rosehill do that sets them apart from other growing facilities in the region?
I think the fact that Rosehill both produces much of our own plant material and provides the design/install service, sets us apart. Much of our competition is one or the other. A sort of all-inclusive one stop shop.
What is your favorite type of landscape/outdoor environment?
Colorado style would be my favorite, one with a lack of hard structure. Natural.
What new innovations are you working on?
I am trying to incorporate more water features into my landscapes.
What pulled you to this career or path of study?
I grew up in rural northeast Kansas and I helped on a small family farm that produced strawberries, asparagus, and sweetcorn for a u-pick operation. Thought is was cool to “live off the land” but there wasn’t much money in it at the time. Several years later I realized you could make a living telling people what to plant where. Gives me a creative license and I can help fill a need.
