Amy Mattox, Grower
What is your job title and description? Annual/Perennial Plant Production-Lead Grower. I plan out the timing of finished crops for all four seasons, monitor the care and maintenance for healthy and beautiful crops and learn new varieties for upcoming seasons.
What does an average work week look like for you? It’s very versatile and depends on the season. In late Winter, we are sowing seeds, sticking cuttings and planting Spring annuals. In Spring, we plant Summer annuals, including our big 24-inch hanging baskets which everyone loves and load the maintenance crews for planting jobs. Fall is when we clean out the houses, put the perennials to bed and grow our exceptional poinsettias.
What is your favorite style of landscape or nature? My favorite type of landscape has lots of color, variety and texture and is nature-friendly.
What current trends are you seeing a demand for in seasonal color? The trends vary from year to year, but this year we have seen a lot more interest in hot, bold colors.
What do you and your team grow that makes Rosehill well known? We have been told that our big, beautiful Geraniums and our Sunpatiens are the best out there. We also grow gorgeous, big mums and very high quality annuals and perennials. Something the general public may not know about our annuals is that the majority of our crops are started from seed or cuttings, so we know the quality of care from start to finish. We all take pride here at the farm in the quality of plant material from our big trees and shrubs down to the annuals and perennials we provide for everyone.
