At Rosehill Gardens, we know many of our clients have never composted before, and that is why we wanted to provide you with some quick and easy home compost tips to help get you started. Composting isn’t that difficult, and if you do it properly, your plants, shrubs and trees will be some of the most beautiful in the neighborhood.
To begin, make sure you have the proper equipment. You will need a compost bin, a garden hose and something to turn/stir the bin with. Once you have these items, all you need is the eventual compost material.
Fill your bin with a combination of green materials such as vegetables, food scraps, coffee grounds, fresh leaves, and grass clippings. Add to this brown materials such as dry leaves, stray, sawdust, and shredded paper. Be careful never to add meats, fish, grease, or dairy products, as these will make your compost toxic.
Finally, make sure everything is small enough that it will break down and decompose into the soil. Turn it every couple of weeks, and in a few months you can add it into the soil that your Rosehill Gardens plants, trees and shrubs are growing strong in.
