Save water with drip irrigation.
Now that planting season is upon us, it would be a great idea to install a drip irrigation system in both your garden and your flowerbeds. These easily installed systems operate by slowly releasing water into the soil which means that all you have to do is install the system and turn it on for your plants to be healthy all summer long.
There are many wonderful advantages to using drip irrigation systems, including:
- Drip irrigation systems deliver water directly to the root zone of your plants. This allows them to use less water and causes virtually no loss from runoff or evaporation or wind.
- Since water is delivered directly to the plant root, the rest of the soil remains dry which significantly prohibits the growth of weeds.
- Because the soil surrounding plant roots is not saturated with water, nutrients in the soil do not leach away from the plant’s root zone.
- Some things to be careful of when using drip irrigation is; don’t put drip in heavily tread areas or in annual beds where there are multiple plantings each year. It also needs monitoring periodically because if anything happens to the drip tubes or system itself, without being able to see the water, it’s not as obvious until the plants are stressed.
Naturally, there are many benefits to using these systems, and the staff at Rosehill Gardens are experts in their operation and how you can best utilize them. To learn more, come on in to meet with our staff and take a look at the systems we’ve installed in our nursery.
