This year while everyone else is looking up to see the fireworks, show them your growing patriotic spirit. Have your neighbors and friends look down to ooh and awe at your garden instead. Here are some plant ideas that will help you highlight your red, white and blue spirit and show everyone that it is firmly rooted in American soil.
For reds, Dwarf Blankeflowers (Arizona Red Shade color) are a great choice and are easily maintained. The Fireball Hardy Hibiscus flowers are also popular as their bright red blooms require very little attention.
For white plants, White Chiffon Rose of Sharon is a great shrub to pant that offers wide blooms that last throughout the summer. Luna White Hardy Hibiscus is another great option as it resists deer and needs full sunlight to stay happy.
To add blue, Darwin’s Blue Speedwell resists deer and rabbits and offers a bluish/purplish hue in the blossoms. Blue Paradise Garden Phlox is a hearty plant that is nearly impossible to kill. Simply plant it in the dirt and add some water.
